Zach Fineberg

Creative Direction

My name is Zachary Fineberg and within Quilt Magazine I am the Creative Director. I am a freelance photographer born in Berkeley and raised in SF. I'm currently a student at Pitzer College. It was 2016 when I first picked up a camera. I had a plan to take some fun photos on a family trip. It's now 2020, and I haven't put the camera down. Over the years, I've tried many different types of photography, but I always find myself circling back to Portraiture and Fashion. The reason I love these styles so much is because of the interpersonal connections they form. Creating an image for me is a collaborative process between the model and me. When taking photos instead of trying to paint an image that I envision, I work to portray the model the way I see them, taking into consideration the interactions and conversations I've had with them. I try to create an image that shows the person I see. Because of this process, the majority of my work consists of friends and family. Photography began as a hobby and before I knew it, it had become my life.
