Simone Jacques
Editorial Copywriter
I am on the editorial team: my roles are creating and editing written content for the magazine such as bio pieces, poetry, interviews & interpersonal narratives. I am also a creative director and model producing visuals cutting content through photo shoots. I am currently attending Spelman college studying double majoring in Comparative women’s studies and Spanish, minoring in education. I am passionate about making Quilt a non-profit serving underrepresented young artists of color in San Francisco granting them access to liberation practices through exploring artivism (art+activism). I have been active in many different community programs such as teaching dance poetry classes at MCCLA, organizing protests against police violence in San Francisco and actively participating in Carnaval with the non-profit Loco Bloco annually practicing resistance against displacement by taking up space and fostering cultural unity. I am qualified for this position because advocacy is one of my core values, I understand the importance of fostering spaces for learning without policing and the education I am receiving from attending a women’s hbcu as well as my lived experiences will support me in nurturing spaces dedicated to uplifting young voices of color.
