I’m Montgomerie West, referred to as Montie by my fellow Quilt members, family, friends, and collaborators. I am on the Social Media team and the Graphic Designer for Quilt. My responsibilities include creating graphics for Quilt’s Instagram and Facebook to advertise our opportunities for community involvement, highlight artists, and most importantly promote our events and magazine drops. I currently go to NYU Tisch and I’m getting a BFA in Collaborative Arts. This degree is interdisciplinary meaning I have been developing my artistry in many different mediums and developing technological and physical artistic knowledge and abilities. In the next few years with Quilt I would like to enhance our social media presence on Instagram and adapt our account to the pacing of the app so that we can build up a loyal community online to supplement the offline community. In addition, creating a presence on Tik Tok is a goal of mine because of the relevance of the platform and further cementing Quilt in the artistic communities around the globe. This past summer I worked at The Drawing Room SF, an art gallery dedicated to promoting artists local to San Francisco. I sold art, filmed and edited a video interview piece for the gallery’s website consisting of the high school interns and the space, and designed graphics and postcards for each gallery opening. I am an avid social media user, and I’ve been making art since I could hold a marker. Networking and communicating through visuals have been intrinsic to my identity as a young artist moving through the world and make me apt to take on Quilt’s graphics for social media and aiding in content creation.
