Assata Conley

Hello, my name is Assata Conley and I am the Quilt Magazine Executive Director. I came to Chicago for school in 2020 to study fashion design and since I have been here I have helped with styling music videos, dressed fashion shows, and many more creative community projects. I started the idea of Quilt Magazine because of the amount of young artists I watched creating art with no platform to share it. I was also aware that many young people don’t even know where to begin when it comes to marketing themselves. I gathered a team and since then we have given many artists a space to express themselves and share their art with a larger community. In the next few years I plan to create a strong organization full of young independent artists who don’t have to sacrifice their art to make it by. I have worked in many performing art spaces in San Francisco where most of my work was with costumes and technical theater but I have always been intrigued by many artforms. I have always enjoyed being part of a safe and strong community being that I was a dancer in San Francisco Carnaval for 7 years. I grew up in the arts so it is all I know and I want to help as many young artists as we can learn to make art their livable lifestyles also.
